Non-Traditional High School Senior Scholarship 2012
Intent: 1. Heidelberg Community and Spouses’ Club (HCSC) seeks to recognize students who make a positive contribution to our military community by virtue of their commitment to the ideals of academic achievement, personal excellence, leadership, community involvement and public service. 2. HCSC will award selected Heidelberg seniors a scholarship to be applied toward the costs involved in seeking a degree at a regionally accredited college, university, or technical school for the year 2012-2013.
Eligibility: 1. The HCSC Senior Non-Traditional Scholarship is open to all Heidelberg High School (HHS) seniors of the class of 2012 who have a physical impairment, neurological impairment, visual impairment, hearing impairment, speech-language disorder, accommodation plan or IEP, and/or specific learning disability; have a U.S. Military I.D. card (a USAREUR privilege card issued to U.S. citizens and bona fide family members of U.S. personnel), or NATO I.D. card; and whose sponsor resides in or is assigned to a unit within the U.S. Army Heidelberg or Mannheim Communities. 2. Home-schooled seniors are eligible with a transcript from home-school sources. 3. Students attending German or International high school are eligible; a Heidelberg High School (HHS) guidance counselor must transcribe grades to U.S. GPA standards. 4. The HCSC Board of Governors will resolve disputes concerning eligibility. 5. High-School Senior Scholarship Non-traditional applicants who also qualify for the High School Senior Scholarship may only apply for one award
Selection: HCSC will grant scholarships to the highest ranked applicants based on grade point average; ACT/SAT scores; special honors, awards, and achievements; school and community activities; volunteer and paid work; essay; and recommendations.
Packet Requirements: 1. Photocopy of applicant I.D. card (specified in “Eligibility” above). Please black out sponsor’s grade/rank, social security number and copy both sides 2. Printed and signed copies of the Privacy Statement and the Acknowledgement Statement 3. Completed HCSC Non-Traditional HS Application electronic section questions one (1) through nine (9)Pease complete all questions using NONE or N/A if applicable. 4. Essay emailed to scholarships@hcsc-heidelberg.com [.doc files only please] (Click here to view essay instructions) 5. Counselor’s Worksheet from HHS guidance counselor, including an official transcript. 6. Two (2) recommendation letters completed by someone other than a family member or another student 7. The entire packet must be received by 4:00 pm, February 15, 2012. NO LATE ENTRIES OR ADDITIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Students must place all hard copy portions (Item’s 1, 2, and 5) of the application in the box marked “HCSC Scholarships” in the HHS guidance counselor’s office.
Disbursement: 1. All scholarship checks will be made payable to the student and the chosen institution. Students must use the scholarship for basic educational expenses such as tuition, laboratory fees, dormitory fees, boarding expenses, books, equipment necessary for classes, and/or any miscellaneous fees required by the institution. Students must deposit checks in the school account by September 30, 2012. 2. The HCSC Scholarship Committee will notify each applicant of selection results. 3. Any student who accepts a fully inclusive scholarship will forfeit the HCSC scholarship. a. If you receive funds from the GI Bill through the transfer of benefits to dependants’ option, you must provide proof of continued financial need. If you cannot provide proof of continued financial need, you must forfeit all HCSC Scholarship
