Continuing Education Dependant Spouse Scholarship 2012

Intent:
spouses who make positive contributions to their communities by virtue of their
commitment to the ideals of academic achievement, personal excellence, leadership,
community involvement and public service.
2. HCSC will award selected spouses a scholarship to be applied toward basic
educational expenses from a regionally accredited college, university, or technical
school for the year 2012-2013.
Eligibility:
1. Applicant must hold a valid U.S. Military I.D. card (a USAREUR privilege card
issued to U.S. citizens and bona fide family members of U.S. personnel), or NATO I.
D. card.
2. Active duty tuition assistance beneficiaries are not eligible to apply.
3. Applicant must have a high school diploma or GED.
4. Applicant must be a dependant spouse whose sponsor resides in or is assigned
to a unit within the U.S. Army Heidelberg or Mannheim Communities.
5. Sponsors are not eligible to apply
6. High school seniors are required to apply for the High School Senior Scholarship.
Dependant children in college are required to apply for the Continuing Education-
Dependant Child Scholarship provided that they meet the eligibility requirements.
7. The Scholarship Chair, Scholarship Advisor and Exec Board of Governors will
resolve disputes concerning eligibility.

Selection:
HCSC will grant scholarships to the highest ranked applicants based on academic
performance, volunteer, community, extra-curricular activities, employment, special
awards, essay; and recommendations.

Packet Requirements:
1. Photocopy of applicant I.D. card (specified in “Eligibility” above). Please black out
sponsor’s grade/rank and social security number and copy both sides.
2. Printed and signed copies of the Privacy Statement and the Acknowledgement
Statement
3. Completed HCSC Dependant Spouse questions one (1) through ten (10)
4. Essay emailed to
scholarships@hcsc-heidelberg.com [.doc files only please]

5. Copy of transcripts from any completed undergraduate or graduate courses.
Unofficial transcripts will be accepted for initial submission. Official transcripts must
be received prior to award of scholarship (April 1st).
6. Two (2) personal recommendation letters completed by someone other than a
family member
7. The entire packet must be received by 6:00 p.m.,
February 15, 2012. NO LATE
ENTRIES OR ADDITIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED
. Students must place all hard copy
portions
(Item’s 1, 2, and 5) in the box marked “HCSC Scholarships” at the Library
on PHV.

Disbursement:
1. All scholarship checks will be made payable to the student and the chosen
institution. Students must use the scholarship for basic educational expenses such
as tuition, laboratory fees, dormitory fees, boarding expenses, books, equipment
necessary for classes and/ or any miscellaneous fees required by the institution.
Students must deposit checks in the school account by September 30, 2011.
2. The HCSC Scholarship Committee will notify each applicant of selection results.
3. Any student who accepts a fully inclusive scholarship will forfeit the HCSC
scholarship.
a. If you receive funds from the GI Bill through the transfer of benefits to dependants
option, you must provide proof of continued financial need. If you cannot provide
proof of continued financial need, you must forfeit all HCSC Scholarship
